When I say I adore Misha Collins, I don’t mean because he’s attractive or funny (though that comes into it), I mean because he is a genuinely nice person.

I was at Asylum 10 this weekend, and for Misha’s autographs he wasn’t allowed to personalise things because of time constraints which is fair enough. However, when I was getting mine, I managed to blurt out (I mean it I was shaking really hard) how important it was to meet him, as Asylum 10 was a goal for me not to kill myself.

The second I said that he stopped writing and looked up at me, and his response was:

“You need better goals.” I almost laughed but I was really trying not to cry, so I responded with:

“No. I don’t.” At this point, he reached across the table and grabbed my hand, pen still off the paper. He looked up at me, shaking and almost crying and smiled and said the simplest thing. At this point he let my hand go.

“See you next year?” I nodded, I was shaking really hard and I picked up the picture and went to leave, but he grabbed my hand again and pulled me back a little. He asked for my name and then wrote what it says on the top left hand corner. He squeezed my hand and smiled and then let me go.

Wonderful, wonderful, things.

I have to take a moment to plug the website Starbright World. If you’re between the ages of 13 and 20 and you have a chronic disease, cancer, or are dealing with any related issues you need to tune in!

This website is AMAZING. It’s a networking website for teens who battle these issues. I’ve only been a part of this community for less than a week and I already feel like part of a new family. I just can’t believe it took me this long to discover them. Two of the best parts are that the chat is always monitored by a CLS so that it’s a safe environment, and that you’re required to provide information on your disease/doctor/hospital so that you know you are in a community of people who are actually like you - troll free.
If you aren’t from America there’s a British, Australian, and Canadian version. And all the teens from all the sights can interact!
I’m not wonderful at explaining these things so I’ll let their website do the talking.

“Starbright World is a virtual hangout where you can build on existing friendships or create new ones, from home or from the hospital. Starbright World is an online social network where teens (ages 13 to 20) who have serious medical conditions, and siblings of seriously ill teens, can connect with each other via moderated chat rooms, games, bulletin boards, videos, and more. “

Being a teen is overwhelming enough without the added stress of serious illness. Frequent hospitalizations and procedures can cause feelings of isolation, loneliness, being left out of “normal” teen social activities and school events….

Not all healing is medical. SBW’s tight-knit community of seriously ill teens provides peer support.It’s a place for teens to express themselves, develop communication skills, find encouragement, talk about their fears, process their feelings, “celebrate and commiserate” with other teens who are going through similar experiences.

And best of all, it’s just a place to hang out, make friends and have fun!
